Open woodlands, especially along rivers (breeding) and drier inland woodlands (non-breeding), in southeastern New South Wales and Victoria, Australia.
How to spot
Look for its brilliant green plumage. Males have a bright yellow face with a red band across the throat; females are duller with a bluish-green face. Listen for their distinctive, musical chattering calls, often heard in flight.
When to spot
Best observed during the breeding season (spring/summer) in riverside forests, or during winter when they congregate in drier woodlands. Active during the day.
