Arid and semi-arid scrublands and woodlands, particularly spinifex and acacia country, in the remote interior of Western Australia, Northern Territory, and South Australia.
How to spot
Look for its striking pale green and blue plumage, pink throat, yellow-green belly, and exceptionally long tail. Males have longer tail streamers and a pinkish wash on the throat. Its flight is graceful and undulating. Listen for its soft, melodious calls.

Highly nomadic, so opportunistic observations are common throughout the year when conditions are favorable. Often seen near water sources.
