Where to spot
Primary and secondary forests, especially humid lowland and montane forests, on Sulawesi and nearby islands like Buton.
How to spot
Look for its dark brown upperparts, pale underparts with dark streaking, and a short crest. Its vocalizations are key to identification, often a series of loud, ringing calls that carry through the forest.
When to spot
Year-round, active during daylight. Often seen soaring over forest canopies or perched within the trees.
