Spotted
The Chestnut-naped Babbler is a small, distinctive species found in the montane forests of Southeast Asia. It is characterized by its rufous-chestnut nape and crown.
Where to spot
Ranges across much of mainland Southeast Asia, including parts of Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam. Inhabits subtropical and temperate montane broadleaf forests and bamboo thickets.
How to spot
Look for its distinctive chestnut nape and crown. Often found in small flocks, moving actively through the undergrowth and lower canopy. Listen for its varied, often chirping and chattering calls.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Active during the day. Best observed during spring and summer when birds are more vocal.
Its rich chestnut coloration on the head and nape provides a beautiful contrast to its otherwise greyish plumage, making it a visually appealing bird.
