The Streaked Spiderhunter is a common and widespread species, characterized by its long, decurved bill and prominent yellowish streaking on its underside. It is found in a variety of forest and woodland habitats.
Where to spot
Widespread from the Himalayas through Southeast Asia, including Bhutan, Nepal, India, China, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. Inhabits forests, woodlands, and well-vegetated gardens.
How to spot
Look for its distinctive long, curved bill and prominent streaking on its yellow belly. It moves actively and can be quite vocal. Listen for its loud, clear calls, often a repeated 'chick-chick-chick'.
When to spot
Active throughout the year. Most visible during morning and late afternoon when foraging. Look for it around flowering plants and spiders' webs.
This species often has a characteristic 'buzzing' flight when moving between flowers or patches of vegetation, due to its rapid wingbeats.
