The Streaked Flycatcher is a widespread and common large tyrant flycatcher across the Neotropics. It is aptly named for its heavily streaked plumage.
Where to spot
Found from southern Mexico through Central America and across much of South America, extending to Argentina and Uruguay. Inhabits open woodlands, forest edges, clearings, and riparian zones.
How to spot
Look for its prominent heavy streaking on the head, back, and underparts, a relatively large bill, and a hidden yellow crown patch. Its loud, often harsh, 'whee-chee-eet' calls are a key identifier.
When to spot
Resident year-round in most of its range, with some populations migrating. Most active and vocal during the breeding season and cooler parts of the day.
