Spotted
The Puna Ground-Tyrant is a ground-dwelling flycatcher of the high Andes, known for its rather plain, grayish plumage and a subtle black cap.
Where to spot
High-altitude puna grasslands, bogs, and marshy areas in the Andes of central Peru and western Bolivia.
How to spot
Look for it on the ground in open, wet areas of the puna. Its subtle black cap is a key distinguishing feature. Watch for its characteristic tail-wagging.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most active during daylight hours.
This species is particularly adapted to the harsh, treeless Puna grasslands, where it blends in seamlessly with the rocky, sparse vegetation.
