The Stork-billed Kingfisher is one of the largest and most magnificent kingfishers, found across South and Southeast Asia. It is unmistakable with its massive, bright red bill, blue-green upperparts, and rufous head and belly.
Where to spot
Widespread from India and Sri Lanka east through Southeast Asia to Indonesia and the Philippines. Inhabits slow-moving rivers, lakes, estuaries, and mangroves, often in forested areas.
How to spot
Look for its imposing size and massive red bill as it perches conspicuously on branches overhanging water. Its loud, laughing calls, 'pew-pew-pew', often betray its presence. Watch for its powerful, direct flight over water.

Resident year-round. Most active during daylight hours. Best observed during mornings and late afternoons.
