The Indigo-banded Kingfisher is a vibrant species endemic to the Philippines, easily identified by its iridescent blue upperparts and a distinctive indigo breast band across a white throat and belly. It is a denizen of clear forest streams.
Where to spot
Endemic to the Philippines, found on various islands including Luzon, Mindoro, and Negros. Inhabits clear, forested streams and rivers, often at higher elevations.
How to spot
Look for it perched low on branches or rocks along clear forest streams. Its brilliant blue color is unmistakable when seen. Listen for its sharp, high-pitched calls as it flies rapidly along the watercourse.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most active during the day. Best observed in the mornings and late afternoons when foraging.
