The Spotted Palm Thrush is a charming bird, recognized by its brown plumage adorned with distinct white spots on its underparts, a feature that distinguishes it from its relatives. It is a palm habitat specialist.
Where to spot
Found in East Africa, including Somalia, Kenya, and Tanzania. It specifically inhabits coastal and lowland areas with palm groves, woodlands, and dense thickets.
How to spot
Look for its brown body with prominent white spotting on the underparts. It often forages on the ground or in low palms. Listen for its clear, fluty song, often delivered from within palm trees.
When to spot
A resident species, observable year-round. Most active during the early morning and late afternoon. More vocal during the breeding season.

The unique spotting pattern on its belly helps to camouflage it against the dappled light filtering through palm fronds, providing effective concealment while foraging.
