Spix's Guan is a widespread species of guan found across the Amazon Basin. It is characterized by its dark, often brownish plumage, a small crest, and a prominent red dewlap.
Where to spot
Inhabits humid lowland and foothill forests throughout the Amazonian regions of Bolivia, Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia.
How to spot
Look for them moving through the mid-to-upper canopy. Listen for their distinctive calls, which often reveal their presence before they are seen.
When to spot
Best observed during the early hours of the morning or late afternoon. It is a resident species, active all year.
