The Black-fronted Piping-Guan is a large, striking cracid with glossy black plumage, a distinctive white-tipped crest, and a prominent red wattle. It is an inhabitant of the Atlantic Forest.
Where to spot
Critically endangered, found in fragmented patches of humid Atlantic Forest in southeastern Brazil, northeastern Argentina, and eastern Paraguay.
How to spot
Search for them in the mid-to-upper canopy of primary and secondary Atlantic Forest. Look for its distinctive white crest and red wattle. Due to its rarity, any sighting is significant. Listen for its loud, piping calls.
When to spot
Most active during early mornings and late afternoons, foraging for fruits and insects in the canopy.
