The Black Curassow is a large, predominantly black game bird native to the Guianas and parts of northern Brazil. Males are uniformly glossy black with a yellow cere and knob, while females are also mostly black but have more reddish-brown undertail coverts.

Inhabits lowland rainforests and gallery forests across Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, and parts of northern Brazil and eastern Venezuela.
How to spot
To observe, quietly approach mature forest areas. Look for its large, turkey-like form moving slowly through the undergrowth. Listen for its low-pitched, booming calls, which can help in locating individuals in dense foliage.
