The Spectacled Spiderhunter is a large spiderhunter with a long, decurved bill, dull olive-green plumage, and distinctive pale 'spectacles' around its eyes. It inhabits dense forests.
Where to spot
Widespread across Southeast Asia, including Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia (Sumatra, Borneo), and Brunei, inhabiting primary and secondary forests.
How to spot
Look for its long, curved bill and the distinctive pale eye-ring. It moves deliberately through the understory and mid-story. Listen for its loud, clear calls, often a repeated 'chup-chup'.
When to spot
Active year-round. Most visible during morning and late afternoon when foraging. Often found near large flowering plants or feeding on fruit.
