The Speckled Tanager is a vibrant species covered in tiny black spots over a green and yellow body. It is a common and active bird of humid forests.
Where to spot
Widespread in humid lowland and foothill forests, forest edges, and mature secondary growth throughout Central and South America.
How to spot
Look for it actively moving through the mid-story and canopy, often joining mixed-species flocks. Its speckled pattern is distinctive.
When to spot
Active year-round. Most observable in the early morning and late afternoon when foraging.
Its 'speckled' plumage provides excellent camouflage, allowing it to blend into the dappled sunlight of its forest habitat.
