Spotted
The Medium Tree-Finch is a distinct and critically endangered member of Darwin's Finches, endemic solely to Floreana Island in the Galápagos. It is a medium-sized bird with an intermediate bill size, adapted for a mixed diet.
Where to spot
Endemic only to Floreana Island in the Galápagos, primarily found in the humid highland forests and transition zone of the island.
How to spot
Look for its medium size and intermediate bill, smaller than the Large Tree-Finch but larger than the Small Tree-Finch. Distinguish from other finches on Floreana by song and bill shape. Listen for its unique, often three-part whistled song, 'wit-wit-chu.'
When to spot
Active year-round. Due to its critically endangered status, any observation is significant. Best efforts should be made during morning hours.
This highly endangered species faces severe threats from introduced parasites like the avian vampire fly (*Philornis downsi*), which parasitizes nestlings, making its conservation a top priority.
