Where to spot
Breeds in moist deciduous and mixed forests across Canada and the northern United States. Winters in South America, particularly Brazil.
How to spot
Look in dense undergrowth near water in moist forests. Listen for its distinctive, resonant, downward-spiraling song, which is often the easiest way to detect its presence.
When to spot
Breeds during summer months in North America; seen during spring and fall migration. Best observed at dawn or dusk when most vocal.
