The Socotra White-eye is an endemic species to the island of Socotra in the Indian Ocean. It is a distinctive white-eye with rather plain plumage.
Where to spot
Endemic to Socotra Island, Yemen, in the Arabian Sea. Inhabits various habitats including dry scrub, acacia woodlands, and wadis.
How to spot
Look for its prominent white eye-ring, dull yellowish-green upperparts, and plain yellowish underparts. Often found in small, active flocks, foraging in shrubs and trees. Listen for its high-pitched, soft calls.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Active during the day. Can be observed throughout the year.
Socotra Island is famed for its unique flora and fauna, and this white-eye is an example of the island's high level of endemism.
