Spotted
The Slender-billed Babbler is a distinctive species found in marshy grasslands and reedbeds across parts of South and Southeast Asia. It is characterized by its long, slender, slightly decurved bill, adapted for probing.
Where to spot
Found in scattered populations across parts of India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and China. Inhabits tall grasslands, reedbeds, and marshy areas, often near water bodies.
How to spot
Listen for its distinctive, often harsh and nasal calls. Look for it moving quietly through tall reeds or grasses. Its long, slender, decurved bill is its most striking and reliable identification feature.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most active in the early morning and late afternoon, often vocalizing from hidden perches.
This babbler's specialized bill allows it to feed on insects found deep within the culms of tall grasses and reeds, a niche not exploited by many other birds.
