The Olive-backed Tesia is a small, plump, short-tailed warbler with dark olive upperparts and yellowish-olive underparts. It is a secretive bird of dense forest undergrowth.
Where to spot
Inhabits dense undergrowth, bamboo, and wet broadleaf forests, often near streams, across parts of South and Southeast Asia.
How to spot
Listen for its distinctive, often explosive song, which is the primary way to detect this elusive bird. Look for very quick movements low to the ground in thick cover.
When to spot
Observable year-round in its resident range. Most vocal during the breeding season (spring/summer).
