Where to spot
Found in dense montane thickets and forest undergrowth, specifically on the summit of Mount Balbi on Bougainville Island, Papua New Guinea.
How to spot
Extreme patience and knowledge of its very specific habitat are required. Listen for any unique vocalizations within dense high-altitude vegetation.
When to spot
Observable year-round in its extremely restricted habitat, though detection is challenging due to its rarity and elusive nature.
This rare and poorly known species is a prime example of insular endemism, with its entire population confined to a single volcanic mountain on Bougainville.
