Spotted
A small, distinctive prinia with a long tail, characterized by its streaked upperparts, pale underparts, and a somewhat rufous wash on its flanks.
Where to spot
Montane grasslands, scrub, and forest edges in the highlands of Sierra Leone and parts of Guinea.
How to spot
Difficult to observe due to its skulking nature and dense habitat. Listen for its distinctive, often rapid and somewhat buzzy song, which is the main clue to its presence.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most vocal during the breeding season (often the wet season).
The Sierra Leone Prinia is one of the more elusive and range-restricted prinia species, found only in specific highland habitats.
