Spotted
A small, attractive warbler with a prominent rufous-brown crown, contrasting with grey upperparts and white underparts. It often has a faint dark eye-stripe.
Where to spot
Tropical moist lowland and montane forests, often in the canopy or mid-strata, across West and Central Africa.
How to spot
Look for its distinctive rufous crown. It is an active insectivore, moving quickly through the foliage. Listen for its high-pitched, rapid, and often buzzy song or calls.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most active in the mornings. Breeding often coincides with the local wet season.
The Rufous-crowned Eremomela is sometimes found joining mixed-species flocks in the forest canopy, benefiting from the collective foraging efforts of other birds.
