Spotted
Shelley's Oliveback is a small, shy finch found in the montane forests of East Africa. It is characterized by its olive-green upperparts and yellow underparts, often with a subtle facial pattern.
Where to spot
Found in montane rainforests and bamboo forests of eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and western Tanzania.
How to spot
Look for it moving stealthily through the lower to mid-story of dense forest. Listen for its quiet, unassuming calls, which often give away its presence before it's seen.
When to spot
Year-round within its specific highland habitats. Best seen during the dry season when foraging might be slightly less restricted by heavy rain.
