Spotted
The Brown Twinspot is a shy and attractive finch found in the dense forests of Central Africa. It has a brown head and upperparts, with a reddish face and throat (in males), and white-spotted flanks.
Where to spot
Found in lowland rainforests and mature secondary growth in Central Africa, including Cameroon, Gabon, and DR Congo. Prefers dense understory.
How to spot
Look for it on the forest floor, foraging for seeds and small insects. Patience is required. Listen for its soft, unassuming calls.
When to spot
Year-round, but often very secretive and difficult to spot. Early mornings are best.
Despite its somewhat subdued brown coloration, the subtle red and white spotting make it a beautiful and unique addition to the forest undergrowth.
