Spotted
The Semiplumbeous Hawk is a rare and striking medium-sized raptor of Central and South America, named for its half-plumbeous (grey) appearance. It is a secretive forest inhabitant.
Where to spot
Found in Central and South America, from Honduras to Ecuador. It primarily inhabits tropical moist lowland forests, especially along river courses and forest edges.
How to spot
Requires dedicated searching within dense humid forests. Look for its grey upperparts and white underparts with rufous thighs. Listen for its high-pitched calls.
When to spot
Observations are scarce due to its secretive nature. Likely active during daylight hours, but specific patterns are not well documented.

This hawk often hunts from low perches within the dense understory of humid forests, making it particularly difficult to spot despite its contrasting plumage.
