Spotted
The Yellow-legged Greenlet is a small, active Neotropical songbird named for its distinctive yellowish legs. Its plumage is generally olive-green, allowing it to blend well into the forest foliage where it gleans insects.
Where to spot
Found across northern South America and parts of Central America, including Colombia, Venezuela, Panama, and Trinidad and Tobago. It inhabits humid forests, secondary growth, and woodlands.
How to spot
Look for its yellowish legs, especially if you get a clear view. Listen for its characteristic, often repetitive, cheerful songs and calls. Scan the mid-story and sub-canopy of humid woodlands.
When to spot
Active year-round in its resident tropical and subtropical habitat. Most vocal during the breeding season. Best observed in the early morning.

The color of a bird's legs can sometimes be a surprisingly useful field mark for identification, especially among otherwise similarly plumaged species.
