Spotted
The Brown-capped Greenlet is a small Neotropical songbird easily identified by its contrasting brown cap atop an otherwise olive-green body. It is an active insectivore of the forest understory and mid-story.
Where to spot
Found in northwestern South America, including parts of Colombia and Venezuela. It inhabits humid montane forests and cloud forests, particularly in the foothills and lower slopes.
How to spot
Look for its prominent brown cap. Listen for its characteristic, often repetitive, high-pitched calls and songs. Scan the understory and mid-story of montane forests, as it can be quite active while foraging.
When to spot
Active year-round in its resident tropical montane habitat. Most vocal during the breeding season. Best observed in the early morning.

The distinct cap color provides a clear visual cue, which is often crucial for identifying greenlets that can otherwise look quite similar.
