Humid evergreen forests, gallery forests, and savannas, ranging from southeastern Mexico south through Central America to the Amazon basin of South America.
How to spot
Listen for their loud, raucous calls. Look for them flying high overhead in pairs or small groups, their bright colors often visible even from a distance. Visit clay licks or fruiting trees.
When to spot
Year-round. Most active at dawn and dusk when flying to and from communal roosts. Also common at clay licks during midday.
