Where to spot
Native to southern Africa, including South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe. Inhabits arid grasslands, savannas, and shrublands.
How to spot
Look for its small size, streaky brown plumage, and the subtle scaled pattern on its forehead. They are often seen in small flocks, foraging on the ground or clinging to grass stems.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Best observed during the dry season when ground cover is reduced. Active throughout the day.
