Spotted
The Strange Weaver is a medium-sized, rather dull weaver bird, mostly olive-brown with some streaking. It is a localized species of montane forests and bamboo thickets.
Where to spot
Found in montane regions of East-Central Africa, including Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, and Uganda. Inhabits montane forests, bamboo zones, and forest edges.
How to spot
Look for its dull olive-brown plumage. It can be shy and difficult to spot in dense vegetation. Listen for its quiet, often buzzy calls, which can help in locating it.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Best observed during local dry seasons when accessing its montane habitat might be easier.

Its name reflects its somewhat enigmatic nature and its tendency to be elusive in its dense, high-altitude habitat.
