The Rusty-cheeked Hornbill is a medium-sized hornbill of Southeast Asia, characterized by its overall dull brownish plumage and distinctive rufous (rusty) patches on its cheeks. Its bill is pale yellow with a small, low casque.
Where to spot
Found in Southeast Asia, including northern India, Bhutan, Nepal, Myanmar, Thailand, and parts of China. Inhabits evergreen and mixed deciduous forests, often in hilly terrain.
How to spot
Look for its overall brownish plumage and the distinctive rusty-colored cheeks. Its pale bill is also a good field mark. Listen for its somewhat soft, grating or cackling calls as a flock moves through the forest.

Resident year-round. Active during daylight hours, typically seen in small groups foraging in trees.
