The Rufous-backed Sibia is a distinctive and active babbler found in the high-altitude forests of the Himalayas and Southeast Asia. It is recognized by its prominent rufous-chestnut back and contrasting dark crown and grey underparts.
Where to spot
Ranges from the eastern Himalayas (northeastern India, Bhutan) through Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and southern China. Inhabits montane evergreen forests, rhododendron and bamboo thickets, at mid to high elevations.
How to spot
Look for its striking rufous-chestnut back. Listen for its clear, whistled calls. It often forages in the mid-canopy or understory, moving actively through foliage.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Active throughout the day, often observed in small groups or pairs, sometimes joining mixed-species flocks.
