Spotted
A hybrid pairing between the diminutive Ross's Goose (Anser rossii) and the neatly marked Barnacle Goose (Branta leucopsis), resulting in a small goose with mixed plumage characteristics.
Where to spot
Extremely rare in the wild. Most likely observed in captive collections or where escapees of both species have interbred, particularly in Europe or North America.
How to spot
Look for a small goose that has a body mostly white or very pale grey (from Ross's) but with the distinctive black neck and white face of a Barnacle Goose. The bill might be smaller and more conical than a typical Barnacle Goose's.
When to spot
If present in a managed environment, they can be seen year-round. In a wild setting, observation is purely opportunistic, likely during winter.

Ross's Geese are the smallest 'white geese,' and their genetic contribution to a hybrid can result in a notably smaller stature compared to many other goose hybrids.
