Humid Atlantic Forest, primary and mature secondary forests, in northeastern Brazil.
How to spot
Listen for its high-pitched, accelerating trill. Look for its overall rufous coloration and try to glimpse the subtle red shoulder patch. It often stays in dense undergrowth.
When to spot
Year-round. Best observed in the early morning when calling. Can be shy.
