Spotted
True to its name, the Pygmy Antwren is one of the smallest members of the antbird family, often found foraging in the mid-story of humid lowland forests. Its tiny size and quick movements make it a challenge to observe.
Where to spot
Widespread across the Amazon Basin and Guianan Shield, found in Venezuela, the Guianas, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia.
How to spot
Look high in the mid-story to lower canopy, often clinging to slender branches and leaves. It frequently joins mixed-species flocks, so focus your search there and listen for its distinctive high-pitched calls.
When to spot
Active year-round. Best observed during the morning hours when it is most actively foraging.

Despite its diminutive size, the Pygmy Antwren is a remarkably vocal bird, using a variety of high-pitched calls and trills to communicate and maintain contact within its territory, especially within mixed-species flocks.
