Spotted
The Plain-winged Antshrike is a medium-sized antshrike with relatively unpatterned, plain wings, giving it a subtle appearance. It is found in the understory of humid tropical forests.
Where to spot
Dense undergrowth and mid-story of humid lowland and foothill evergreen forests, across parts of the western Amazon basin (Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia).
How to spot
Listen for its distinctive, rapid, accelerating 'chip-chip-chip' song. Scan the dense foliage carefully. They can be part of mixed-species flocks.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most active in the early morning and late afternoon. Calls are a good indicator of its presence.
