The Purus Jacamar is a beautiful iridescent green bird with a long, slender bill, closely related to the White-eared Jacamar. It is found in the understory of humid tropical forests.
Where to spot
Humid lowland tropical rainforests, particularly along the banks of rivers and streams, in a restricted range within the southwestern Amazon basin of western Brazil and eastern Peru.
How to spot
Look for it perching silently on low branches near water bodies, waiting for insects. Its vibrant green plumage can catch the light, making it easier to spot despite its preference for dense vegetation.
When to spot
Active throughout the day, with peak foraging activity in the morning and late afternoon.
