Spotted
The Paradise Jacamar is arguably the most spectacular of the jacamars, known for its extremely long, needle-like central tail feathers and brilliant iridescent green and coppery plumage.
Where to spot
Humid lowland and foothill forests, forest edges, and clearings across a wide range in the Amazon basin and northern South America, including Brazil, the Guianas, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia.
How to spot
Look for it perched upright on exposed branches, often near treefall gaps or along rivers. Its extraordinary tail is unmistakable. Listen for its clear, whistling calls.
When to spot
Year-round; most active during the early morning and late afternoon, when insect activity is high.
