Spotted
The Seychelles Black Parrot is a highly endangered medium-sized parrot endemic to the island of Praslin in the Seychelles, closely related to the Vasa Parrots.
Where to spot
Valleys containing native palm forests, particularly Vallée de Mai, on Praslin Island, Seychelles.
How to spot
Look for its dull sooty-brown plumage with a slightly paler head and yellowish lower mandible. Its call is a high-pitched, whistled 'whee-whee.' Focus on areas with fruiting palms.
When to spot
Active during the day. Observations require dedicated effort due to its restricted range and conservation status. Best seen in early morning or late afternoon.
