The Peacock Coquette is an exquisitely adorned hummingbird native to the Guiana Shield region of South America. Males possess an elaborate green crest and iridescent blue-green throat plumes, resembling a peacock's tail.
Where to spot
Found in the Guiana Shield highlands, including parts of Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, and northern Brazil. Inhabits montane forests and their edges.
How to spot
Look for this small bird around flowering trees and shrubs in its mountainous habitat. The male's unique crest and throat plumes are unmistakable.
When to spot
Active throughout the day, especially mornings and late afternoons. Can be observed year-round within its range, particularly during peak flowering seasons.
