Xantus's Hummingbird is a stunning, medium-sized hummingbird endemic to the Baja California peninsula. It is easily identified by its prominent white eyebrow and post-ocular stripe, contrasting with its iridescent green plumage.
Where to spot
Exclusively found on the Baja California peninsula of Mexico. It inhabits arid scrubland, dense thorny scrub, oases, and gardens, particularly along canyon bottoms where water and flowering plants are present.
How to spot
Look for its distinctive head pattern: a broad white stripe behind the eye and a shorter white eyebrow above it, contrasting with dark ear coverts. Males have a glittering green gorget. Observe it at flowering plants or feeders in its unique habitat.

Resident year-round within its range, actively feeding throughout the day, especially during the cooler morning and late afternoon hours. Breeding typically occurs from late winter through early summer.
