Spotted
A medium-sized egret found across the coasts of Asia and Australasia, notable for having two color morphs: a dark grey morph and a pure white morph. It is typically found in rocky coastal areas.
Where to spot
Rocky coasts, coral reefs, beaches, and mangroves across East Asia, Southeast Asia, Australasia, and numerous Pacific islands.
How to spot
Look for either the uniform dark grey plumage or the pure white plumage. Observe it actively foraging along the shoreline, often chasing fish into rock pools.
When to spot
Year-round. Most active during low tide when coastal foraging grounds are exposed.

This egret is uniquely adapted to coastal life, often found foraging on rocky shores and coral reefs, unlike most egrets that prefer muddy estuaries or freshwater.
