The Orange-backed Troupial is a large and beautiful oriole, featuring a brilliant orange body with black wings, tail, and a black bib. It's a highly visible resident of open country in much of Brazil.
Where to spot
Found in eastern and central Brazil. Inhabits savannas, open woodlands, cultivated areas, and gallery forests.
How to spot
Look for its striking orange and black plumage in open, grassy, or agricultural landscapes. Listen for its loud, melodious, and somewhat complex whistling song.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most active and vocal during the breeding season (typically Southern Hemisphere spring/summer).
