Cory's Canastero is a rather plain-looking ovenbird with a long, graduated tail, found in the high-altitude grasslands and páramo of the Venezuelan Andes. It is often challenging to spot due to its secretive habits.
Where to spot
Restricted to the high Andes of western Venezuela, inhabiting páramo, puna grasslands, and high-altitude scrub, typically above 2,900 meters up to 4,200 meters.
How to spot
Look for it foraging on the ground or clambering through low shrubs. Due to its cryptic plumage and secretive nature, locating it often relies on hearing its distinctive vocalizations.
When to spot
Generally active during the day, particularly early morning and late afternoon. Its calls may be more evident during the breeding season.
