The House Wren is one of the most widespread and familiar wrens in the Americas, known for its plain brown plumage, bubbly song, and adaptability to human environments.
Where to spot
Breeds across most of North America, Central America, and parts of South America. Found in a wide variety of habitats including suburban gardens, open woodlands, orchards, and forest edges.
How to spot
Look for a small, plain brown wren with a short, frequently cocked tail. Listen for its characteristic loud, bubbling, and often jumbled song, commonly heard near human dwellings.
When to spot
Breeding season (spring-summer) in northern parts of its range, migrating south for winter. Resident year-round in warmer climates. Most active early morning.
