Where to spot
Endemic to the northern Solomon Islands, including Bougainville and Choiseul. Inhabits lowland and hill forests, often near small streams or damp areas.
How to spot
Look for its small, colorful form perched low in the dense forest understory. Its vibrant plumage can be hard to spot in the shadows. Listen for its high-pitched, thin 'tseet' calls.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Active during daylight hours. Best observed in the mornings and late afternoons.
