Spotted
The Nilgiri Thrush is a species of thrush endemic to the montane forests of the Western Ghats in Southern India. It possesses a distinctive scaly pattern on its underparts.
Where to spot
Shola forests and grasslands within the high elevations of the Nilgiri Hills and other parts of the Western Ghats, India.
How to spot
Look for it foraging among the leaf litter in dense, moist montane forests. Its scaly plumage provides good camouflage, so patience and listening for rustling sounds are helpful.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Best observed in the early morning or late afternoon when it actively forages on the forest floor.
