Spotted
Prinz's Goshawk, also known as New Britain Goshawk, is a poorly known medium-sized raptor endemic to New Britain. It is a forest dweller, adapted to hunting in dense tropical vegetation.
Where to spot
Endemic to the island of New Britain in Papua New Guinea, primarily found in tropical moist lowland and montane forests.
How to spot
An extremely challenging bird to observe due to its rarity and dense forest habitat. Requires extensive fieldwork in its specific range; listen for calls and look for quick movements through the canopy.
When to spot
Observations are limited, but like other raptors, it is active during daylight hours. Early morning hunting may be the most likely time for encounters.
This species is considered 'Vulnerable' due to its restricted range and habitat loss from deforestation, making every sighting significant for conservation efforts.
