Where to spot
Evergreen forests, montane forests, and well-wooded hilly areas across parts of the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia, and Indonesia.
How to spot
Look for its entirely glossy black plumage, bright yellow legs and cere, and long, broad wings with prominent 'fingers.' Its slow, deliberate flight is also distinctive, often at eye level along contours.
When to spot
Year-round, active during daylight. Often seen soaring over forested hills or quartering along ridgelines, particularly in the morning.
